Ibrahim Hassan Sharbatly, GM of Hassan Abbas Al-Sharbatly Charity Foundation, and Fahd bin Abdulmohsen Al-Rasheed, MD & CEO of King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), opened Al-Sharbatly Mosque on Monday. The foundation undertook all expenses to build, equip and maintain the mosque, described as the largest in KAEC’s Bay La Sun Village, an essential component of the housing infrastructure. The mosque can accommodate 3,500 worshipers, which includes space for 500 females. With a total size of 2.3 million square meters, it consists of residential apartments, resorts, a business hub, restaurants and centers for sailing and sea sports. Tourist hotspots include water canals and the coast overlooking the Red Sea, renowned for its spectacular view. The village has been designed to match design and city planning standards used in high volume tourist areas worldwide. Residents at Bay La Sun Village have 24-hour access to health centers and security systems. Sharbatly said: “KAEC is considered one of the largest development projects in the world. Our initiative to build this mosque stems from the vision of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to enforce the religious aspects side by side with development the Kingdom is seeing.” Al-Rasheed said: “The new mosque is a true marvel that uses highest standards of engineering, construction and design. This truly reflects their commitment to excellence in charity. It is the first project of its kind in the city and thus encourages the introduction of similar community-based initiatives.”
