Kizza Besigye said Saturday that there are over 100 policemen surrounding his home and farm. He said he has been illegally confined to his home and is running short of food, as he is blocked from leaving.
Police detained Besigye on Tuesday after he attempted to participate in “Walk to Work” demonstrations. They then confined him to his home. Police say the confinement is preventive detention but Besigye insists it is house arrest.
Opposition parties held “Walk to Work” protests in April and May over high prices and political corruption. Opposition supporters renewed the protests Monday, when demonstrators using rocks and police wielding tear gas clashed.
