The fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in an air-conditioner in one of the rooms on the second floor where the Pakistani workers lived, spokesman for the Civil Defense in Jeddah Maj. Abdullah Al-Amri said.
Three firefighting teams rescued the tenants trapped on the second floor. Ten of them who suffered burns and injuries were taken to King Abdul Aziz Hospital.
The official said the two victims died from smoke inhalation. The bodies are being kept in the hospital mortuary. An investigation is under way.
