Nabil Elaraby said it was, however, too soon for the Cairo-based body to consider recognizing the Syrian opposition as the legitimate authority, following the Assad administration’s suspension from the League on Saturday.
Answering a question at a news conference, Elaraby said: “Recognition of them as a government? Maybe it is a bit premature to discuss that.”
Elaraby was in Tripoli to meet the head of Libya’s National Transitional Council.
