“The system is part of a five-year plan to boost electronic health services at a national level,” said Dr. Muhammad Al-Yamani, adviser to the health minister and supervisor of the information technology.
“The plan reflects the ministry’s desire to make use of modern information technology in order to extend health care of the highest standard,” Al-Yamani said. “We set up this electronic communication platform, taking into account present and future requirements,” he added.
He said the system ensures effective and direct communication with all health care experts in the Kingdom, adding that the ministry’s staff takes care of more than 27 million people across the Kingdom.
He claimed that the system would contribute to increasing the productivity and performance of the ministry’s employees. “There are 244 hospitals under the ministry in addition to more than 2,000 primary health-care centers. This highlights the significance of such a communications system,” he said.
Al-Yamani said the system would be highly useful at times of emergencies when hospitals would need the presence of health experts. “The system will help us contact doctors, nurses and paramedical staff and send medical files and documents of patients to experts quickly,” he pointed out.
