Captain Jamie Dwyer scored a hat trick, taking his tally of goals for the tournament to six, as World No. 1 and defending champion Australia beat Pakistan 6-1 to top Pool A. The win was Australia's largest over Pakistan in a world-level event.
New Zealand captain Dean Couzins scored from a penalty stroke with two minutes left to earn New Zealand a 3-3 draw with the Netherlands and second place in Pool B. The Netherlands topped the pool with two wins and a draw.
Spain beat Britain 8-1 to take second place in Pool A while South Korea and Germany drew 3-3.
World Player of the Year nominee Dwyer opened the scoring for Australia in the 22nd minute of its match with ninth-ranked Pakistan when his speculative cross within the circle was inadvertently diverted into his own net by Pakistan goalkeeper Salman Akbar.
Eddie Ockenden, also nominated for the Player of the Year award, doubled the margin when he lashed home a powerful reverse stick effort four minutes later, completing the first half scoring.
Australia started the second half strongly with a goal to Luke Doerner, then Dwyer scored twice to complete his hat trick. Mark Patterson crashed home the sixth from a tight angle, while Pakistan scored a consolation goal with six minutes remaining.
New Zealand will compete in the medal round with Australia, the Netherlands and Spain after rallying from 3-0 down to snatch a draw, which secured second place in Pool B. The Dutch have now qualified in the top four at their last 24 Champions Trophy appearances.
Philip Burrows and Blair Hilton scored to narrow the Dutch lead to 3-2 before Couzins put away New Zealand's first successful penalty stroke at a Champions Trophy since 1984.
Santi Freixa and Roc Oliva both scored twice as Spain crushed Britain 8-1 to reach the top four for the eighth time in 21 Champions Trophy appearances and for the first time since 2008.
The win was Spain's biggest at the Champions Trophy and it joined the Netherlands and Australia as the only teams to have ever scored eight or more goals in a Champions Trophy match. The tournament record is 10 goals by Australia in their 10-3 victory over Spain in 2009.
Britain suffered its biggest-ever Champions Trophy defeat and had never previously lost by more than five goals at the elite, eight-team tournament.
