The heavily overloaded vessel — with about 250 men, women and children fleeing economic and political hardship in Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran and Pakistan — was carrying twice its capacity when it was slammed by a towering wave.
Survivors said they were trying to reach Australia.
Sutrisno, a rescue official involved in the search, said navy warships spotted bloated bodies in the water near Banyuwangi, an island 180 miles (300 kilometers) from where the ship sank.
He said officials, aided by fisherman, were pulling them from the water Wednesday.
Only 49 people were rescued after Saturday’s accident.
