Eyas Al-Hajery, Mobily's SVP wholesale and carrier services, signed the agreement with Kuwait's Communication, Electricity and Water Minister Salem Mutheeb Al-Atheena.
The underground cable is set to deliver enormous bandwidth allowing Internet service providers in Kuwait to benefit from Mobily's fiber optic.
Salem Al-Atheena said his ministry is working on two parallel paths.
The first path aims at developing the old telecom cables and expanding their capacity while the second path aims at engaging with new external cables that would add more to the level of competition and choice among companies.
This contract with Mobily will help to enhance the provided services with the "best quality and in the least prices".
Eyas Al-Hajery said the agreement with Kuwait's Transportation Ministry is part of Mobily's plans to build international networks via SNFN to guarantee and find multiple and reliable paths for the data connection within the Kingdom and connecting it to all the neighboring countries.
Al-Hajery said the project would offer the service providers in Kuwait a diversity, in terms of pathways, that will guarantee the provision of services and will provide the necessary protection for business continuity.
Mobily has been working on major regional projects. In 2010, it announced its commencement in the TGN project which runs from East Asia to Europe, passing through all of Singapore, India, Jeddah, London and Marseille.
Mobily is also working on creating a 4,000 km regional network of ground cables (RCN) with high bandwidth that extends from the UAE to Europe.
It covers the Kingdom via Mobily's networks and links to Jordan, Syria and Turkey in collaboration with a number of regional operators.
This network will allow high-speed Internet connection that will reliably serve the imperative needs for data services in the region.
According to Mobily's five-year strategy plan that was announced in mid-2010, these projects would contribute to the consolidation of these strategies to ensure leadership in solutions and data applications, these projects will also provide integrated solutions based on advanced high-speed technologies.
