The agreement between Glowork, a Saudi led project to empower women, and EXA Information Systems, was signed at the council under the supervision of Haifa Al-Hussaini, head of the women's section at the CSC.
Glowork has already created more than 2,000 jobs for women on its website in line with the Saudization program.
“The agreement will allow companies to hire women based at home for jobs such as customer services, sales, research and digital marketing, where a very high tech monitoring and performance system will be put in place and training would be provided to both the manager and the respective female employee,” Khalid Alkhudair, founder of Glowork, told Arab News following the signing ceremony.
He added that the project could create thousands of jobs for women to work for the private sector from their homes.
Alkhudair believes the law that requires segregation at workplaces has been an obstacle for companies that aim to hire women and this agreement will help overcome that obstacle. “Over 80 percent of the companies we approached never had a female department although they were happy to hire women, but were put off by the law that requires separate entrances for men and women staff, which means additional costs on their shoulders,” he added.
“The agreement is a historic breakthrough that will undoubtedly create thousands of jobs for women and save a lot of money. This will also offer an opportunity for women in rural areas and those with special needs or disabilities to work from home as the system does not require both employees and companies to be in the same town, city or even the country,” he added.
“Some companies might have issues with hiring women that are married as they might go on maternity leave. This system dispels that worry as she can continue working from home. I believe this system will set a benchmark for flexibility in the workplace and this could be rolled out worldwide in our current times of finding innovative solutions for creating more jobs.”
Sami Al-Helwa, chief executive officer of EXA, said the agreement is not limited to cost saving and creating jobs, but also allows companies to increase its quality output.
