The supervisor of the society's female section in Madinah, Sharaf Al-Qarrafi, said a delegation from the NSHR visited the family of the victim Wisam in Yanbu’s Hai Al-Shawam district on Sunday. Officials met with his mother and sisters.
She said the society would prepare a report on the case for its chairman in Madinah Omar Zuhair Hafiz.
Al-Qarrafi said the NSHR office in Madinah will follow up the legal aspects of the case with judicial authorities and also push through procedures for transferring the mother's residence permit (iqama) to her eldest daughter, who is 19 years old and a Saudi national.
"The society will extend financial assistance to the family and will provide the mother with psychological support," she said.
The mother, who was holding Wisam's blood soaked shirt, said her ex-husband deliberately killed her son to get back at her. She said he was always threatening to burn them with acid and he had previously been violent toward Wisam.
The mother said she advised her ex-husband several times to be kind to his child but he would not listen. "Of late, his attacks against Wisam had increased tremendously until he finally killed him," she recalled.
The mother said Wisam used to go to his father and spend the night with him and added that during one of her son's visits, the father tore up his books and he had to study with his friends for his examinations.
Suzan, Wisam's sister, said her father was staying in a house around 400 meters away from their home and added that her brother used to visit his father every day.
She recalled that on the day of the murder her father offered to take Wisam to a nearby park where he tried to hit him with an iron rod, but onlookers prevented him.
She said Wisam asked the security guard of the park to take him home. "My father was hiding near our home. When he saw Wisam he immediately hit him with a stick then stabbed him several times in the chest and the back," she said.
Suzan said her brother was rushed to hospital but he soon died from his serious injuries. The 50-year-old father is currently detained in Yanbu general prison.
