The council said getting accreditation will be compulsory to stay in business and no private health care facility license will be renewed otherwise.
The council is an umbrella organization composed of all government and private health service providers in the country, while the board is the Kingdom's body for accrediting these providers whether public or private.
The council stressed this move was needed to regulate health care services provided by the private sector and to raise its quality.
On Sunday the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s medical committee will hold a workshop on the new regulation.
The accreditation standards and its implementation in the private sector will be highlighted and explained by experts from the Health Ministry, the Joint Commission International (the external arm of the top US health care accrediting body), and the private sector.
The RCCI has called representatives from private sector health care providers in Riyadh region to attend the one day workshop so they are aware of these standards, the accreditation process, and its implications for doing business in the private health care sector.
Private sector hospitals account for around a quarter of hospitals in the country, while polyclinics in the sector account for around half of total primary health care centers, according to 2010 Health Ministry statistics.
