Sixteen-year-old Bangladeshi Faisal Masum had also obtained
the highest marks in English Language in Saudi Arabia and had secured the top
position in accounting and chemistry in the Riyadh province.
The IGCSE examination is conducted worldwide by the
University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
“This is a unique achievement and the whole school is
delighted over this marvelous performance,” Mohamed Hussein, principal of the
school, told Arab News on Wednesday.
“We are proud of this student, who has brought credit not
only to the school but to the whole of Saudi Arabia and to his motherland,” the
principal said.
Congratulating Masum for his brilliant performance,
Bangladesh Ambassador Mohamed Shahidul Islam said he is thankful to his parents
and teachers for playing their part in his academic performance.
“This is a good example to be emulated by others in the
school,” the envoy said, adding the performance will be written in golden
letters in the annals of his alma mater. “He has proved that nothing is
impossible,” Islam noted.
Faisal’s father A.K.M. Masum is a satellite engineer with
Media Gates Group in Riyadh. He has two sons and hails from Bogra in
Bangladesh.
The school recently honored 21 students who got A star and A
grade passes at the same examination with gold and silver medals.
The school has 1,385 students and 98 teachers. It follows
the British curriculum and is accredited by the University of Cambridge for
IGCSE examinations and by Edexcel London for GCE Advanced-Level examinations.
“We have achieved a success rate of over 90 percent in
EdExcel and IGCSE examinations," said Hussein, adding most of the former
students of the school are currently pursuing higher studies in universities
and colleges in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore,
Malaysia and Bangladesh.
The University of Cambridge International Examinations
Centre and the British Council in Riyadh will hold the Outstanding Cambridge
Learner Awards Ceremony on Feb. 28 at the Holiday Inn, Al-Qasr, Riyadh.
