Prince Muhammad will open the
project on behalf of Custodian of Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah.
“The first phase includes
2,000 completed housing units. The total number of units as ordered by King
Abdullah is 6,000,” the Saudi Press Agency quoted Minister of Social Affairs
Yousuf Al-Othaimin as saying in a statement yesterday.
“The projects worth SR6
billion are based at five locations and safe areas close to the original homes
for the displaced,” Al-Othaimin said, adding the units were also fully
furnished and air-conditioned on the orders of the king.
The project is being executed
under the supervision of the King Abdullah and His Parents Foundation for
Developmental Foundation.
More than 5,000 families had
been evacuated from the border with Yemen amid fighting between Yemeni
intruders and Saudi armed forces in November 2009.
A large number of families
were displaced as a result of the violence. The king ordered the project when
he visited Jazan to inspect the armed forces stationed along the Kingdom’s
southern border with Yemen.
