The decision was taken at a meeting of the Health Services Council held yesterday under the chairmanship of Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah at the council's headquarters in Riyadh.
The secretary-general of the council, Dr. Yacoub Al-Mazrou, said the proposed committee would be composed of representatives from the ministries of health and higher education, National Guard Health Affairs, Armed Forces Hospital, Security Forces Hospital, King Faisal Specialist Hospital, Saudi Red Crescent Authority and Saudi Food and Drugs Authority (SFDA).
He added that the committee was expected to develop a mechanism for procurement of medical equipment and draw up a plan for specialized health services.
Al-Mazrou said the council formed a number of committees yesterday on various health matters that need special attention.
He added that a special committee would be appointed to evaluate the performance of general consultants and specialists who have not continued with regular in-service practical courses intended for them. The committee will determine the efficiency of such medics in keeping with the current standards of health.
A committee was also appointed to stipulate the minimum specifications for ambulances deployed in the private or public sector.
The Saudi Red Crescent Authority is expected to provide the committee with basic requirements needed for such vehicles with a description of the first-aid medical equipment to ensure the safety of the patients.
