He told business daily Al-Eqtisadiah yesterday that any review of electricity bills in the future would not affect low-income Saudis.
Al-Barrak said the option to increase tariffs was still open, being the only available means to stop the rising waste of energy.
"The citizens, especially the low-income, will be exempted from any revision of the pricing policy. Any rising of tariff would never harm those citizens," he reiterated.
Al-Barrak said revising the electricity charges was a government policy and a decision to be taken by the state. "Such a step will contribute to harnessing the waste of energy especially by large buildings and mega projects and factories," he said.
The CEO said the company would continue to install smart networks in its power stations to prevent power cuts that happen due to overloading in some areas particularly during the summer.
Al-Barrak's statements came less than a year after a decision adopted by the authority to organize electricity and double production, raising the tariff of power transmission.
