The woman and her child received in-house treatment for two months at the hospital.
The hospital authorities had demanded a sizable sum before discharging Eliyathamby Rajeswary and her infant in medical bills, including the cost of keeping the infant in the incubator.
Rajeswary came to the Kingdom as a housemaid to work with her husband Ramachandran Raveendran, who is a house driver in the same Saudi household.
Raveendran was jailed following a brawl with one of his friends.
The mental tension caused by her husband's prolonged jail term triggered the premature delivery of her child following a six-month pregnancy.
The mother and infant were brought to the Sri Lankan Embassy on Tuesday and were subsequently transferred to the embassy's safe house, where the mission keeps runaway housemaids.
The couple has another daughter, Rasanika, who was taken into the embassy's custody in the absence of both parents.
The husband was released from prison and has been awaiting repatriation at the government detention camp. The embassy had already issued an outpass for Raveendran to leave the Kingdom.
Kottugad Shihab, an Indian social worker, said he had visited the mother in the hospital during his routine visits to government hospitals and jails. However, the Sri Lankan Embassy maintained that the mission has a special team, which regularly visits the prisons in the capital to look after the welfare of imprisoned Sri Lankans.
Shihab said members of the Indian community collected SR 2,000 and handed to the Saudi sponsor after which he agreed to buy air tickets for the mother and the newborn baby.
Diplomatic sources revealed that the embassy would now make arrangements for the couple and their two children to leave for Colombo since the mission was able to settle the matters amicably with the concerned parties.
The sources said the mother was very happy when she saw Rasanika well looked after by the embassy. She thanked the embassy and the Saudi government officials who had helped her come out of this ordeal.
