The announcement was made at a ceremony organized by the school to welcome and introduce the new principal, who will also be the head of the institution.
Mohammed Aslam Meer Mohiddin, IISR chairman, introduced Perwez and said, "The new principal is a highly-qualified person who possesses rich experience in both academics and administration."
Perwez, 47, is also a person with diverse qualities and cheerful disposition, said Mohiddin, while assuring full support to the principal. He called on the school's faculty members and support staff to extend their support to Perwez. The ceremony was attended by about 300 teachers and support staff of the school besides chairman and members of the IISR managing committee.
Prominent among those who attended the ceremony included Mohiddin, guest of honor Vivek Samant, and IISR board members Mohammed Firoz Rehman, Aqeel Shaikh Mahboob Sahab, Mohammed Aslam Shakoor and Nusrat Ahmad.
Zeenat Jafri, former IISR principal; Vasu Anirudhan, former IISR principal in-charge; Asma Shah, IISR vice principal (girls’ section); and Meera Rahman, IISR vice principal (boys’ section) were also present.
Speaking on this occasion, Perwez said: "I recognize the privilege to be working with such an experienced, knowledgeable and professional faculty. Although there will be many challenges to the IISR during the 2012-2013 school year and onward, I look forward to teaming with the management committee and the faculty for guidance and to maintain a successful academic program and behavior support system for our students."
Perwez, while presenting his views and vision for the overall development of the IISR, mentioned his two major priorities: discipline and academic standard. He sought the support of parents and teachers, which is essential "to give a new definition and direction to the school in general and to improve the academic standards of this reputable institution in particular." Perwez, who worked as principal of the International Indian School Tabuk for six years, has rich academic and administrative experience.
In the ceremony, IISR chairman Mohiddin honored Anirudhan, who served as principal in-charge after IISR principal Manzar Jamal left a few months ago. He appreciated the work of Anirudhan. Vivek Samant, who was the guest of honor, also delivered a very thoughtful speech in which he gave some tips to the teachers. Samant spoke about the need to make students aware of the modern technology and how teachers can address the diverse issues related to the students.
Firoz Rahman honored Samant with floral bouquet.  Meera Rahman, vice principal of the boys’ section, presented vote of thanks. The program started with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Arifuddin, whereas Abdul Bari translated the verses. The IISR, which was founded in 1982, runs classes from lower kindergarten (LKG) to class 12.
The school is affiliated to India's Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in New Delhi and is licensed by the Ministry of Education in Saudi Arabia. The school has about 10,000 students on its rolls today. It is also one of the oldest schools in the Saudi capital and one of the largest Indian schools in the world.
