Parents took time out from their busy schedules to bring their children to the competition, where contestants of four categories — Kiddies, Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior — displayed their skills in drawing and painting with startling perfection.
S.D. Moorthi, Indian consul for welfare, inaugurated the event and commended Keralite organizations for arranging a variety of programs for the education and edutainment of children.
“If our children get an opportunity, they will make use of it to reach the peak,” said Overseas Indian Cultural Congress Jeddah President K.M. Sherief Kunhu. “Parents should make use of all available opportunities for the educational and cultural progress of their children,” said Gulf Madhyamam Deputy Editor Kassim Irikkur.
Professor Raynolds of King Abdulaziz University said the famous Indian artist M.F. Hussein passed away without getting proper recognition. Usman Irumpuzhi, K.T.A. Munir and Firos also spoke, commending Islahiya’s initiative.
Ibrahim Chemnad, president of Islahiya alumni, presided over the function. Program convener P.K. Hameed, V.K. Shameem, Gafoor Pazhoor, Saleh Kattuppara, Anis Ponnani and Saifuddin were the main organizers of the contest.
Shifa Al-Aziziya Medical Center in Jeddah has offered to give a gold coin to the top winner, Chemnad said, adding that the winners would be announced shortly through the media.
