New move ‘will benefit air transport’

Minister of Transport Sulaiman Al-Hamdan has described the Cabinet's decision for a total separation of General Authority of Civil Aviation’s (GACA) responsibilities as an independent legislative body from the board of directors of Saudi Arabian Airline as a move that is in best interests of the air transport sector.
“It will serve the Kingdom’s air transport sector and enhance the role of GACA to stand on an equal footing among all the carriers and embolden its role as an independent legislative body,” the minister added.
Al-Hamdan stressed that this decision reflects the keenness of the Kingdom’s wise leadership to bolster and support the aviation sector and move forward to achieve a leadership position in this sector.
GACA has been working to strengthen its supervisory legislative role by adopting several laws and regulations that will achieve greater organization and flexibility in this vital sector.
“This will no doubt help in reaching the aspirations of our wise leadership and to reach a level of satisfactions to the people of this country of the service rendered to them in the air transport sector in the Kingdom,” Al-Hamdan added.
During its weekly meeting, the Cabinet approved a decision to activate the role of GACA as an independent legislative body. This will result in a total separation of GACA’s responsibilities and Saudi Arabian Airline board of directors.
