Diyar contracts SNC-Lavalin for substation design

SNC-Lavalin (SNC) has been awarded a $ 1,150,000 contract by Diyar Al Muharraq WLL (Diyar) for the design and construction supervisory services for three 66/11kV primary substations in Bahrain.
This infrastructure will support Diyar’s development of a mixed-use urban scheme. SNC-Lavalin will design and supervise the construction of the three new primary substations and the installation of the high-voltage cable feeders.
These substations are required to supply power to the Ministry of Housing’s Project Habitat, a major social housing project encompassing 3,100 residential units with commercial and community centers.
“We are honored to begin a relationship with Diyar as our new customer,” said Karl Matalani, VP, power, Middle East, SNC-Lavalin. “Our local power engineers and high-voltage substation and cabling experts in Bahrain are well positioned to support Diyar with building infrastructure that will provide reliable power for Project Habitat,” he added.

Maher Al-Shaer, CEO of Diyar Al Muharraq, said: “We are pleased to be collaborating with SNC-Lavalin to design and supervise the construction of three 66kV substations connected to a mass housing development in the mixed-use master planned development project.”
The work began in August 2015 with energization of all three primary substations forecast for December 2017. SNC-Lavalin is also currently holding discussions with Diyar regarding an additional two 66kV substations.
