Silencing the critics

This refers to the report, “Saudis blast rights groups for maligning KSA globally.” (July 2)
This is understandably in reaction to the International and Human Rights Watch report in which it sought Saudi Arabia’s suspension from the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council in light of the Kingdom’s action against the rebels in Yemen who had virtually held the nation a hostage.
Racism and parochialism have become the hallmark of the western civilization. Backed by their media and economic power, the westerners have resorted to Islamophobia, besides a general attack on the institutions of Islam including mosques and women wearing veil.
It is in this backdrop that the latest controversy involving the rights body’s demand to debar Saudi Arabia from UNHCR can be seen.
Their sweeping and damaging remarks, which is definitely influenced by anti-Saudi agents, fail to take into account the huge humanitarian works, funded and aided by the Kingdom to allay much of the miseries of the humankind. It is anti-Saudi propaganda going on unabated in the West and which needs to be arrested and brought to heel.
Frankly speaking, Saudi Arabia needs to understand the language the world speaks in. A strong media, for instance, is one such but very potential weapon to silence its critics.
The international media will never cover Kingdom’s humanitarian efforts, although the country has emerged as the top donor worldwide. — Shahid Rahman, Dubai
