RIYADH: Hamnawa, a socio-cultural group of Pakistani ladies elected a new team of office bearers and organized a condolence meeting to pay tribute to Abdul Sattar Edhi, a prominent Pakistani philanthropist and humanitarian who recently passed away.
Formed almost two decades ago, Hamnawa works under the patronage of the Pakistan Embassy, and the wife of the ambassador is its patron-in-chief.
In a function at the embassy, patron in-chief Begum Nighat Manzoor appointed new office bearers elected for two-year terms with a new vision of enlightened moderation to make its functions more effective for the community, and be socially amicable.
After thorough consultation and consideration, she chose reputed volunteer and passionate physician Dr. Erum Qalbani as its new general secretary with the key task of uplifting Hamnawa, and giving it a new prolific face.
Other newly elected office bearers include Bilquis Safdar (president), Shumaila Shahbaz (vice president), Huma Mahmoud (finance secretary), Madiha Noman (event coordinator), Ronaq Arsalan (PR coordinator), Afsheen Faisal Farroqi (executive member), Sana Durrani (executive member), Sonia Siddiqui (executive member), and Sobia Zubair (executive member).
The ceremony was attended by Ambassador Manzoor Ul Haq and about 300 guests. The envoy in his speech praised the role of Pakistani ladies and acknowledged the commitment of these new members.
Paying rich tribute to Abdul Sattar Edhi, the envoy was full of praise for the legendary humanitarian.
In her keynote speech, Nighat Manzoor thanked the outgoing committee members and expressed full confidence in the new team.
In a collective remark the new team said, “alone we can do so little, together we can do so much, it’s an opportunity to make a difference.”
