JEDDAH: The Ministry of Labor and Social Development has assured the Pakistani workers who have been facing problems because of non-payment of salaries that their issues would be addressed soon.
“All the workers will be paid their dues as per Saudi laws, and they can authorize the mission to collect the dues if they want to return home. They can also transfer their sponsorship to another company without payment of any fees and continue to work in the Kingdom,” said Abdullah Al-Olayan, director general of the ministry’s Jeddah branch.
The labor official’s assurance came following a meeting with Pakistan Consul General Shehryar Akbar Khan in Jeddah. Pakistani Community Welfare Counselor Basit Maqsood Abbasi was also present.
During the meeting, the consul general discussed at length the plight of Pakistani workers due to the non-payment of salaries and dues by Saudi Oger and other companies.
Al-Olayan appreciated the Pakistan government efforts to help the workers and said that the Saudi government has started food catering services for the stranded workers.
The labor official accompanied the consul general and a delegation to the Sogex residential compound and met the affected workers, heard the grievances of the workers and promised to resolve the problem soon.
Meanwhile, various teams of Pakistan Consulate visited a number of Pakistani workers’ camps in the western region and distributed essential commodities and food items.
