MAKKAH: Within a plan that aims to modernize and develop all its businesses, especially with regard to hygiene and the environment, the Secretariat of Makkah has prepared a number of transitional stations for temporary waste collection.
Through these stations, safe maintenance of wastes is carried out in order to avoid the harms they can cause, and to protect the environment from the dangers resulting from the decomposition of waste, similar to what is being applied among advanced societies in waste disposal, and removing harmful gases through safe and scientific means.
Mohamed Al-Mourgui, general director of hygiene, said that there are seven transitional stations in Makkah and they are used for temporary collection of waste, which is transported by mobile compressors and dumpsters.
These stations are distributed in different locations: Al-Kaakih, Duqm Al-Wabar, Al-Maessam, Muzdalifa, Arafat, Bahra and Al-Jmom.
The transitional station consists of a concrete platform connected to a concrete ramp for cars ascending, and are connected with a hydraulic piston for pressing the waste inside a container.
The container is mounted on a trailer, being pulled by a trailer head.
The station’s capacity is 75 m3. Each station is provided with fifteen trailers with a 30-ton load for transfer of solid and large waste.
“The goal of this process is to shorten the distance in order to operate the equipment in more cycles, and to reduce the operational costs as well,” Al-Mourgui pointed out.
