Riyadh expo to showcase world’s largest atlas

The world’s largest atlas, Earth Platinum, will be showcased today at the two-day World Luxury Expo at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Riyadh.
The atlas contains 128 pages, is 2.75 meter in length, 1.8 meter in width and weighs 128 kgs. It took four years to be made and over 120 professionals from around the globe have contributed their knowledge and skills. The atlas contains world maps of a number of sites that were included in the World Heritage List. Earth Platinum has a purchase price of $ 100,000.
The world’s most luxurious atlas is a collector’s piece and its maps consist of images that are stitched together using as many as 1,000 individual photos and the largest consists of 12,000 photos.
Only 31 copies of the atlas will ever be published. The aim in producing Earth Platinum has been to create a benchmark in cartography and to leave a legacy for future generations, as the atlas shows the world in as much detail as was possible at the time of publication. Towns, rivers and islands that normally would not be shown due to size restrictions are clearly visible.
The only atlas that is similar in size to Earth Platinum, is the Klencke Atlas, which is housed in the Antiquarian Mapping Division of the British Library in London.
Guinness World Records granted a certificate to Millennium House on July 13, 2012, for Earth Platinum, which is now recognized internationally as the largest atlas in the world.
The highly anticipated two-day exhibition is showcasing many of the world’s leading luxury brands and services, from a broad selection of luxury categories, to a highly select group of VIP guests from across the Kingdom.
