JEDDAH: Saudi employees of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the second largest international organization after the United Nations, have deemed their future insecure. For many years, they have hoped for inclusion in a social insurance system or any other retirement method but those responsible for such schemes have rejected their appeal.
The General Organization for Social Insurance told Arab News that it had no reservations to include them but that “they are waiting for directives from higher levels to take action."
They then wrote to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about their problem and the ministry referred their case to the Royal Court.
Another attempt to approach the decision makers was made by Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, director general of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), but that too did not result in a change in status.
This is not the first time the employees of the OIC have made such demands. After many attempts, the Gulf Cooperation Council finally included OIC members in the insurance system with a retroactive payment amounting to SR 150 million.
