Pakistan said it will mourn the death of Crown Prince Naif, adding the country had lost a “trustworthy friend” who had strived for the betterment of the Muslim Ummah.
The Saudi Embassy in Islamabad opened a condolences book at its premises. A large number of politicians and other people visited the embassy to pay their respects.
Acting Saudi Ambassador Jassim Al-Khalidi received condolences.
Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Army Chief Gen. Ashfaq Pervez Kayani attended the funeral of Prince Naif in Makkah.
A large number of diplomats wrote in the condolence book and highlighted the prince’s services to the Muslim world.
Former Afghan Deputy Defense Minister Mohammad Saeed Hashmi wrote Prince Naif’s efforts in bringing peace in the Muslim world would always be remembered.
He wrote: “We grieve over this death, as the services of Prince Naif and his efforts to bring peace in Muslim world are unprecedented.
“The whole Ummah was happy because during his 50 years of ministership he maintained peace and stability in Saudi Arabia and helped pilgrims during Haj and Umrah.”
Pakistani leader in Kashmir Sardar Yaqoob Khan praised the prince’s services, especially his personal interest in rebuilding Kashmir after a devastating earthquake there in 2005.
Pakistani officials and people who could not make it to Makkah also attended funeral prayers at King Faisal Mosque.
