A Pakistani engineer died yesterday when he drowned in a well in the village of Al-Masmah, 120 km to the north of Jeddah, a spokesman of the Civil Defense in Makkah region said.
Lt. Col. Saeed Sarhan did not identify the engineer but said he was in his 40s and was fixing a machine used for pumping water out of the 30-meter deep well when he drowned.
Sarhan said the Command and Control Room in Makkah received information about the incident from the Department of Civil Defense in Khulais and immediately sent a rescue team, including divers, to the scene of the incident.
The spokesman said the victim's body was pulled out of the well and sent to a hospital in Khulais. He said the incident is being investigated.
