The Philippine Embassy celebrated the 114th Philippine Independence Day with the diplomatic community and other guests at the Tuwaiq Palace on Tuesday.
Diplomats and other guests expressed unity with the embassy and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) on the occasion. Ambassador Jarno Syrjala of Finland said, “It's a privilege to have been invited to this event and I join the Philippine Embassy and Filipinos in their celebration.”
Ambassador Dimitrios Letsios of Greece added, “It goes without saying that I and the Greek Embassy are one in joining the Philippine Embassy and Filipinos in their celebration of their Independence Day anniversary.”
First Secretary Helmut Leuschner of the German Embassy said that he was honored to have been invited to the celebration.
Amanat Ali, head of Business Development of Bank Albilad, expressed happiness in gracing the occasion.
The reception had earlier been scheduled on June 18 but was postponed due to the passing of Prince Naif.
Ambassador Ezzedin H. Tago said that the Philippines and the Kingdom have a similar stand on international issues, such as the Palestinian issue.
“Saudi Arabia also supported the recent candidacy of former Philippine Supreme Court Justice Florentino P. Feliciano to the International Court of Justice,” Tago said.
At present, some 1.2 million Filipinos are working in various parts of the Kingdom.
“I hope that in a couple of years, we’re able to not only to boost bilateral ties but also to extend more assistance and give benefits to OFWs in Riyadh and in the Eastern Province,” said Tago.
