The Philippine ambassador to the Kingdom inaugurated Tuesday night in Riyadh an eight-day Filipino food festival as part of the celebrations to mark the 114th Philippine Independence Day anniversary. The festival is launched by Lulu Hypermarkets as part of the “Wow Philippines” campaign in its Riyadh and Alkhobar stores.
“Thank you for launching this food festival. The impressive display of various Philippine food products shows that Lulu Hypermarket outlets have attracted a big number of Filipino customers,” said Ambassador Ezzedin H. Tago.
He added that he was impressed by the wide array of Philippine products made available by the hypermarket for Filipino nationals.
Philippine embassy staff accompanied the ambassador to the event that featured delicious Filipino native dishes, such as tocino, longgonisa and tapa.
Lulu’s regional manager P. K. Saleem and Shafiq Rahman, Lulu’s general manager in the Murabba district outlet, welcomed Tago and the embassy staff as well as Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who were on hand to witness the welcome ceremony.
Talking on the occasion, the regional manager said that the focus of the event was to project Lulu Hypermarkets as a unique shopping experience that caters to the need of OFWs in Riyadh.
“This will also highlight the exclusive range that Lulu carries in its outlets, which is not available anywhere else in the Kingdom. Freshly-made Philippine delicacies will be prepared and made available to Filipino customers during the campaign,” he said.
Saleem added that the Filipino festival was expected to increase Lulu’s array of Philippine products. As of now, he said, Filipino products in Lulu’s different outlets include fruits, milkfish, dried fish and noodles.
