PIC is using screens for interrogations

In a move aimed at further boosting transparency, the Prosecution and Investigation Commission (PIC) has started interrogating defendants on electronic screens which will enable them to follow what they say and to be sure that their answers will not be changed, local daily Al-Watan reported yesterday quoting an informed source.
According to the source, this advanced move was first introduced in the PIC's branch office in the east of Riyadh and will later be used all over the Kingdom.
"The investigators will conduct the investigations and compile the list of charges electronically. The accused will be able to see his answers live on the screen and to object to them if he or she so desires otherwise he or she will have to sign to the authenticity of the answers," he said.
The PIC opened its first model branch in the east of the capital city which includes electronic and technological networks to deal quickly with cases from the time the case is reported, to the questioning, compiling of the list of charges and referring the case to the court.
"Under this new system, more than 30 percent of the cases will be cleared very quickly," the source said. The branch serves seven police stations in Riyadh and will deal with all cases except those in which the investigator needs to go to the crime scene.
