Pin Slasher opened a wide gap on its pursuers in Game 1 and, with Micah’s Pride not up to the challenge, clinched the championship in the Filipino Expatriate Damayan Bowling Group Friday Morning Bowling League 11th Conference at the Bowling City here.
Four exciting stepladder matches followed the Slasher-Micah’s matchup in which Dr. Hassan Hijazi Team of Carlos and Fedelyn Bustinera triumphed over Petromin Express and Pin Rockers in 3-team shootout.
Dr. Hassan Hijazi team then was defeated by defending champion Ekis XX at 1141-1120 on 266 and 208 deliveries by Eugene Delfin and team captain Ernie Geslani.
But climbing up against No. 3 qualifier Lance & 3rdy, Ekis XX wasn’t able to break with only Ruben Griño (208) and Geslani (207) parrying the collective charge of their rivals. With Ric Reformado, Ver Jasa and Edward Botardo shooting 236, 232 and 211 and team manager Evelyn Santoc, Shirley Sagmit and Elo Manalo supporting with 488 Lance & 3rdy dethroned Ekis XX at 1167-1051.
Micah’s Pride effectively stopped the progress of Lance & 3rdy, winning their two-game series showdown at 2296-2209. Micah’s Pride perfectly executed its match plan on well-distributed games with Ronnie de Castro greatly scoring with 604 followed by team head Ester Santoc 587, Jack Jarin 559, Oca Bernabe 549 to go with identical 547s from Ruel Santoc and Bonnie Garcia. Evelyn Santoc and Edward Botardo paced Lance & 3rdy with 612 and 608, but then failed to get support from their teammates.
The moment of truth finally arrived for the well prepared Pin Slasher after three weeks of waiting. Micah’s Pride seemed lost after an anemic start by Oca Bernabe and Bonnie Garcia with Jack Jarin trying hard with 231 on the first salvo.
Down by 68 pins into the ultimate game, Micah’s Pride was still missing the breakout games from its two towers so that though Ronnie de Castro shot 245 and Ruel Santoc 203 to win the game at 1148-1145 it allowed Pin Slasher to romp off with with the title on final tallies of 2286-2245.
Team manager Dariel Loquias led the Slasher binge with 409, followed by Aileen Miralbuna 399, Jay Bengco 389, team captain Roger Daquioag 372, Obie Ycasas 368 and May Lourdes 349. Tito Cruz, Garry Raymundo, Edu Toledo, Pancho Cuevas and Carling Constantino are the other members of the champion team.
