THE SPIRIT of the pure bred roadster is very much alive and kicking. More independent than ever before, it is even more powerful, visceral and intense.
The Porsche Boxster has a new, lightweight body and a completely re-designed chassis. Considerably of lower weight and longer wheelbase, a wider track and larger wheels significantly enhance the mid-engine sports car's driving dynamics undermining its position as the best in its class.
Superior performance is backed by up to 15 percent more fuel efficiency. Depending on model, they get by with significantly less than eight liters of fuel per 100 km. Fundamentally changed styling - with shorter overhangs — a significantly forward-shifted windscreen, flatter silhouette and expressive edges all provide the Boxster with a fresh, contemporary look.
The new roadster's posture is decidedly more muscular and striking.
Passengers are enclosed by a completely redesigned, fully electric hood, which now dispenses with a convertible top compartment lid.
The interior gives occupants more space, and reflects the new Porsche outline with a raked centre console, which originated with the Carrera GT.
In the Boxster, the 2.7-liter horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine delivers 195 kW (265 hp); in the Boxster S, the 3.4-liter equivalent generates 232 kW (315 hp). Both mid-mounted engines feature direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus for a significant increase in both power output and efficiency. The SPORT button on the centre console is fitted as standard and opens up even more agile responses. Power is transmitted to the wheels by a lightweight six-speed manual gearbox or the optional 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK).
A series of innovative technologies is key to achieving exemplary efficiency. As standard, these include the auto start/stop function, electrical system recuperation, energy saving electromechanical power steering, intelligent thermal management and, in conjunction with PDK, the coasting function.
Porsche Stability Management (PSM) provides stability at the limits of sporty performance.
