A Ministry of Agriculture official said that incomes of expatriates working in the agricultural sector would be monitored.
“Deposits and money transfers of expatriates who buy yields before they are harvested and then control their prices in the market would be monitored,” he told Al-Eqtisadiya newspaper.
He said the monitoring would be carried out by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA).
The official said that the prices of fruits and vegetables in the country have risen greatly compared to the past few years. The authorities formed a committee comprising several ministries including the ministries of Interior, Municipal & Rural Affairs, Agriculture, Labor and Commerce & Industry to tackle the issue.
The committee recommended the formation of agricultural cooperative societies, which would end the expatriate control of the market and enable farmers to solve their production and marketing problems.
