Santos and Montañer claim LBC Billiard Doubles title

The LBC sponsored billiard doubles tournament finally ended last week with Alex Santos and Mike Montañer winning the mixed Class C and D category.
It was a crucial fight for the winners who once became the leaders in the winners’ bracket but were thrown out to the losers’ side by the pair of Alex Seguido and Mar Barnedo. After the champs denied Buddy Rolano and Michael Victor in the last leg of the loser’s bracket, they took revenge on Seguido and Barnedo in a twice to beat, race-to-nine final contest to grab the coveted championship crown. They finally proved that they are the best in that category and realized their dreams.
In the first encounter, the two teams exchanged equal billiard talents in the beginning in a see-saw battle but Santos and Montañer got the upper hand in the sixth rack. From that point on, they secured a 2-point lead until the end and clinched the first battle with a 9-7 final score.
It was a great relief for both as they survived the first test going into the next encounter. In the final showdown, the pressure was intense on Seguido and Barnedo as they failed to execute their plans in the first encounter for an easy win. Exchange of skills again ensued in the second game but momentum was on the winners’ side.
They secured a 2-point lead all throughout and gave no chance for the losers to take the lead. Barnedo even donated one rack from a scratch shot to the delight of Santos. The winners scored a convincing final score of 9-6 to the cheers of spectators. The pair won cash prizes plus Acer laptops and trophies. Seguido and Barnedo also won cash prizes and mobile phones including Rolano and Victor, who bagged the third place.
