13th Makkah Conference starts today

Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal will inaugurate today the 13th Makkah Conference of the Muslim World League (MWL) under the aegis of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah.
MWL Secretary-General Abdullah Al-Turki said Muslim intellectuals, academics and officials of Islamic organizations will participate in the two-day conference carrying the theme “the Muslim society — constants and variables,” the Saudi Press Agency reported yesterday.
The MWL organizes conferences to discuss major issues facing the Muslims world. The annual conferences is called “Makkah Conference.” The late King Abdul Aziz called the first conference in Makkah during the Haj of 1926.
“The MWL chose the topic of issue of constants and variables in the Muslim society for the 13th conference because of the need of the ummah to have insight into the Shariah perspective of the recent developments in some Muslim countries so that the stances of the Muslim communities could be united,” Al-Turki said.
He said the participants will discuss papers on four major topics. The first on the concept and formation of the Muslim society will discuss subjects such as the contemporary Muslim society, Muslim minorities in other societies and non-Muslim minorities in Muslim societies. The second topic will discuss subjects such as the constants and variables in Shariah, and the unity of the Muslim Ummah between constants and variables and the constants and variables of the Islamic call.
Under the topic of contemporary challenges, the variables and constants in culture, politics, society, economics and international relations will be discussed. The conference will also discuss the revival, corrective methods and religious and civil society.
