JEDDAH: The Makkah Passport department has detained 70 residency and work permit violators, including 6 women, as part of a random campaign launched by passport police in cooperation with the Jeddah Municipality.
The 70 suspects were detained in Al-Jamiah neighborhood south of Jeddah. The spokesman of the Makkah Region Passports Department, Lt. Col. Mohammed Hussein, said in a statement to a local newspaper whose staff accompanied the police in the sudden campaign, that the patrol was able to encircle the site after monitoring and receiving comprehensive information about the location, in addition to the gathering data on the violators and their activities which included selling meals and hot and cold beverages to truck drivers.
He declared that after determining that the zero-hour patrols began led by the commander of patrols division at passports, Col. Mohammed Al-Saadi, and squad members of the division, pointing out that the detainees were referred to the authorities concerned for further action while random stalls were confiscated.
From his part, the spokesman of Jeddah Municipality, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Nahari told the local newspaper that the participation of the municipality came within the working team to remove random selling stalls, pointing out that the daily task of the municipality is monitoring food safety besides checking premise licenses, work permits and environmental control.
