Apartment fire in Bahrain claims life of Saudi man

A Saudi man died on Friday of burns and smoke inhalation after an apartment he was renting caught fire.
The Gulf Daily News quoted the Bahraini Interior Ministry as saying that the Civil Defense had put out a fire at the Baisan Hotel Apartment on Manama’s Exhibition Avenue. Civil Defense rescued one person who was having breathing problems due to inhaling smoke.
A ministry spokesman later issued another statement stating that the man died of complications arising from smoke inhalation at Salmaniya Medical Complex. His name was not disclosed.
According to a Bahrain newspaper, three Saudi men had rented an apartment in the hotel and one was out when the fire broke out. The two men were sleeping in the apartment when workers noticed smoke. They tried to get in, but the apartment was locked from inside.
Firefighters were called and they rescued the two. One was unhurt while the other had suffered burns and had to be rushed to hospital for treatment.
A ministry official said that the cause of fire was a cigarette and 50 percent of the second-floor hall had been damaged. The apartment was destroyed.
