BMC celebrates ‘Day of Cultures’

Batterjee Medical College (BMC) for Science and Technology celebrated the International Day of Cultures and traditions this week at their campus.
The program was organized by the Department of Student Affairs in the presence of cultural attachés accredited by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The event showcased the diversity of various cultures and countries of the world together under one roof.
The event was represented by college students from 26 Arab and Islamic countries and presented the culture, art, traditions and folklore of these countries. It also included an international food festival.
Students of BMC presented traditional dances, traditional music, poetry, skits, history, culture, fashion shows of traditional costumes of almost 20 countries. Besides the cultural and traditional shows a food festival and cultural exhibition of Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, China, Pakistan, United States, Nigeria, Yemen, Syria, Egypt, Brazil, Tunisia, Palestine and Italy were displayed.
“This is the second time we are having this event at our campus, as last year it was a huge success that attracted a crowd of over 2,500 guests along with VIP guest’s and consulate generals of participating countries,” said Saeeda Farazi student of BMC and coordinator of Bangladesh stall.
Dr. Khaled Batterjee, vice president of the Board of Trustees of (BMC), said the main aim behind organizing the event was to show that BMC is an international college, “Cultural exchange always gives chance to learn more about others and let the students come close to each other, cultural diversity is an enrichment of cultures that enhances their capabilities, teaches them the dimensions of humanity and unleashes their horizons this is how we make the country international,”
Batterjee added: “The multiplicity of visions and expressive shapes and patterns enrich knowledge and multiply its benefits.”
Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim, vice dean for Student Affairs, stressed the extracurricular activities held by the college, which are important in constructing students’ personality and shaping their characters.
He said that the cultural exhibition contains folklore, handicrafts and introductory brochures for those countries and their cultural, professional and scientific life” pointing to the college’s role in the exchanging culture between its students who belong to different countries.

In the organization of this cultural program and exhibition the female section of the college was also ahead Dr. Hawazen Mutawe, vice dean of female section, stressed on the importance of the International Day of Cultures in exchanging experiences, knowledge, customs, traditions and lifestyles experienced by various countries around the world.
“I think it is a way to bring people together, and we can show different cultures, and we become more aware of other countries culture and traditions, and such programs should happen more often as they give us a chance to learn about others,” said Sara Gulzar from the Pakistan pavilion.
Nearly 300 BMC students and staff members participated in making the exhibition a successful event. The 1st International Day won “Best Attendance” award by Batterjee Medical College. More than 2,000 guests attended the International Day.
