Senior Indian citizens residing in Jeddah have recently launched a group called the Senior Indians Club. The main objective of the newly formed club is to provide financial relief for the families of Indian expats who have suffered the sudden death of their breadwinner.
Abdul Qader Memon, a veteran resident in the Kingdom and a prominent member of the Indian community, revealed to Arab News the reasons that propelled him to create the club. According to Memon, six Indian seniors have recently passed away due to natural causes, which led the community to seriously think about ways to assist the families of the deceased members. He said the sudden death of the head of a family means the dependents face serious financial woes in the host country.
Memon added that addressing the issue collectively as a community facilitates providing immediate relief and support for the family of the deceased over the next few years.
Members of the group are planning to begin enrollment of Indian members very soon.
Furthermore, he said that the membership is open to all Indian nationals both male and female who legally reside and possess valid visas. However, their membership is subject to the approval of a managing committee.
Explaining the details of how the financial assistance will be provided, Memon said a specific amount of money would be given to the family members of the deceased within seven days of the death. Online transactions and communications are the main conduit for the group’s activities. So far, over 60 members have enrolled in the club and interested Indian seniors are encouraged to contact the group by e-mail at: [email protected] or through the mobile number 0504374326.
