Committee finishes survey of Makkah’s Burmese residents

Burmese community members affiliated with surveying committees have completed their initial surveying work, a local newspaper reported.
Areas of the survey included Misfalah, Alqudwah, Kankaria, Al- Kadi, Nakassa, Al-Zuhoor, Al-Khalidiya and Zahrat Kadi.
The survey comes as a prelude to adjusting their situation in these areas. They will be given residency cards in order for them to obtain jobs and receive compensation for their buildings and have access to housing alternatives to their buildings, which will be removed to give way to the project of developing the Misfalah area that had earlier been approved.
Parents, male and female members of the Burmese community were included in the survey with 20 teams of the task force working for two whole days in Makkah, Jeddah and Taif to prepare a comprehensive and integrated database of facts and figures on the community.
"The Secretariat of Makkah, in coordination with the International Islamic Relief Organization, has completed a comprehensive study on the Burmese community", said Osama Al-Bar, Mayor of Makkah.
He added that information in the study included their state of health, social and economic aspects and the number of males and females in the community so as to ensure their lawful rights and enable them to obtain alternative dwellings. "We will not embark on the development project until adequate dwellings for the owners of these random houses have been provided," said Al-Bar.
