Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal was awarded honorary membership in the Saudi Alzheimer's Disease Association during a ceremony that was held at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry here yesterday.
Prince Khaled reiterated his support for the organization. "I appreciate the efforts of this society and that is the reason I came to attend this function," the governor said, and commended Saudis for backing charitable activities in the country.
He thanked Prince Saud bin Khaled bin Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman, chairman of the society, as well as his brothers and sisters. "I also take this opportunity to thank Prince Khaled bin Abdullah whom I know since I was a child and I respect him."
Prince Khaled said he was proud of the association and its activities in support of Alzheimer's patients.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ahmed Al-Hamdan, chairman of the Social Responsibility Council, said the JCCI is happy to host such charitable programs. He also thanked Prince Saud bin Khaled for organizing the event. "Like other charitable organizations in the Kingdom, I am sure this association will also work for giving hope to the people and removing their difficulties," he pointed out.
In his speech, Prince Saud bin Khaled, chairman of the association thanked Prince Khaled for his support to the organization. "The atmosphere in the Kingdom is suitable for charitable activities," he pointed out.
On behalf of the board of directors, Prince Saud extended his thanks and appreciation to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, Crown Prince Naif, and Deputy Interior Minister Prince Ahmed, who is honorary president of the association.
Dr. Turaif Yousuf Al-Ama and Dr. Muhammad Bashaikh from the Faculty of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University, spoke about Alzheimer's disease.
The event also witnessed the signing of a partnership agreement between the association and Prince Majed Society for Social Development and Services.
The society takes care of those suffering from the disease discovered in 1906 by a German scientist after whom the disease is named. It is the most prevalent disease among the elderly and one that causes most concern, especially in view of the absence of any cure.
