A forum on media and advertising was opened yesterday at the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) under the auspices of the Minister of Culture and Information Abdulaziz Khoja.
RCCI Secretary-General Husain Al-Azl addressed the opening session of the forum and stressed the important role of the media in the process of development.
He said the advertising market in the Kingdom is the largest in the region, thanks to the strength of the Saudi economy and the growing number of companies.
He called on media organizations and advertising agencies to consider age disparity in the Saudi society, as each medium has its own audience. He expressed his hope that the forum would come out with constructive recommendations to serve the goals for which the forum is being held.
On his part, Sultan Al-Buzai, head of the Media and Advertising Committee at the RCCI, said the importance of the forum stems from the participation of a number of experts, academics, professionals and media investors, in addition to studies presented, which deal with significant topics relevant to the media industry.
A number of papers were presented during the morning sessions. One paper dealt with the challenges facing the PR industry, whilst another elaborated on the development witnessed by the PR market in the Kingdom, as well as the challenges associated with this field, such as training and shortages in qualified cadres.
The other papers that were presented during the forum dealt with topics ranging from the concept of PR and its impact on international relations to the challenges and market needs of satellite-based TV channels.
Some other papers shed light on the challenges facing new media, e-press between professionalism and credibility and the future of new media, notably in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region.
