Minister of Higher Education Khalid Al-Anqari yesterday launched a forum on Saudi chairs and scientific centers abroad in Riyadh which is being organized by the Prince Salman Chair for Historical and Cultural Studies of the Arabian Peninsula.
Al-Anqari said that for 36 years the Kingdom has encouraged the establishment of chairs and scientific centers in a number of reputed universities abroad relying on its strong conviction of having scientific and cultural communication with friendly countries.
The minister expressed the willingness of his country to support researchers to acquaint themselves with Arab and Islamic civilizations and history. The Kingdom has so far established 44 scientific chairs in foreign countries, he was quoted by SPA as saying.
The experience of Saudi chairs abroad encouraged the government to launch more chairs inside the country with a proper and scientific vision, he said. He recalled that the first scientific chair in the Kingdom was established in 1994 at the King Fahd University for Petroleum and Mining (KFUPM), the College of Electrical Engineering.
The minister said the scientific chair program has received support from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah who has so far extended funding to four chairs.
