"Buy your ticket early if you want to save" is the message coming from the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) as it announced a tiered system of air ticket pricing that would reward early purchasers of tickets with prices lower than those offered nearer flight time. Still to be determined, however, is the exact definition of "early."
The new policy is detailed in GACA's "Comprehensive Strategy for the Improvement of the Aviation Industry in the Kingdom", which was recently approved by the Council of Ministers.
The Cabinet decision stipulated that GACA is to issue a guide of (ticket) prices to replace current prices as per the mechanism mentioned in the joint report of GACA and the Ministry of Finance.
This mechanism includes taking into consideration current state-defined prices as a price base from which prices would increase according to when the ticket was purchased and the date of the flight. Prices for economy class tickets on domestic flights that are reserved and purchased "early" will be the same as they are now, according to GACA.
The guide is being prepared in cooperation with international experts and will assess the real costs of domestic air transport. GACA added that this type of pricing would result in an increase in the number of domestic flights in the Kingdom and thus solve the current problem of a lack of seats for domestic travelers.
