A new National Guard hospital for children with the capacity of 350 beds will be constructed at Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz Medical City by the end of this year.
Brig. Khaled Bakalka, executive director of operations for the western sector at the National Guard’s Health Affairs, told Arab News, financial allocations have been recently approved and contractors will begin working on the project within the next few days.
The new hospital will introduce advanced medical care for children in all required specialties. It will also serve the families of the National Guard personnel and the public, according to Bakalka who was addressing the attendees at the launch of a medical-social symposium on domestic violence at the InterContinental hotel in Jeddah on Tuesday.
Bakalka said the National Guard has other health care projects in the pipeline including a superior center for treating injuries and another center specialized in neurology with the capacity of 200 beds.
Other projects include a 100-bed psychiatric hospital and a 400-bed hospital for patients with chronic illness.
The executive director assured that all these projects have been approved and the execution process will commence shortly.
The medical city’s outpatient clinics served 400,000 to 500,000 patients last year, while 25,000 to 30,000 patients were admitted and hospitalized and more than 70,000 emergency cases were received.
The facility has the capacity of 600 beds and the number of beds is expected to increase to 1,500 with the launch of the new projects, he said.
