The National Anti-Corruption Commission (Nazaha) never publicizes excesses or improprieties committed by government bodies until all evidence is verified and confirmed, Nazaha Pesident Muhammad Al-Sharif was quoted as saying by local media.
Al-Sharif, who was performing an inspection tour of government departments in the northern border region, said Nazaha retains documents as proof of corruption charges leveled against any government department.
On the exchange of “accusations” between Nazaha staff and a number of government departments, Al-Sharif said those who are rejecting data prepared by Nazaha on the irregularities of some government officials were themselves behind those irregularities. Their reactions were natural since Nazaha had uncovered those irregularities, he said.
No war of words exists between Nazaha and government departments and no department is exempt from inspection tours conducted by Nazaha, he asserted.
Nazaha’s role is to inform citizens on the deficiency of services or delayed projects, he was quoted as saying.
On challenges they are facing, the Nazaha chief said one difficulty is represented in the delay of government departments’ response to Nazaha’s inquiries which, he said, sometimes exceeds one month, the permissible period for government departments to respond.
In this context, the Nazaha chief appreciated the role undertaken by the media in uncovering corruption.
Al-Sharif also lauded services provided by government departments in the northern border region, especially the municipality services. He said that in this regard, it is the best region of the country.
As part of a large-scale assault on corruption, Al-Sharif said in an earlier statement that Nazaha had submitted a proposal to to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah designed to protect public funds and that graduate programs focused on fighting corruption are being created.
Additionally, scholarship students are being sent overseas to learn anti-corruption techniques, especially in Austria where the International Anti-Corruption Academy is located.
