New TV program to counter terrorism

RIYADH: A new Saudi program on television called “Security of the Kingdom” will go on air on Tabah Channel starting on the first week of September, according to Dr. Mohsin Shaikh Al-Hassan, the program’s host.

“The program is important and timely because of terrorism engendered by terrorist groups like Daesh and Al-Qaeda,” said Al-Hassan, also a well-known writer, Islamic scholar and TV host.
Earlier, he hosted well-known TV programs “Jobs on Air” on Al-Danah Saudi TV and Al-Khair Yagma (Gathering for Happiness) on Al Margab Saudi TV.
Both “Jobs on Air” and “Al-Khair Al Yagma” were highly successful so that Al-Hassan’s new television program is also expected to draw a lot of local viewers.
The program, which will discuss security issues as far as Saudi Arabia is concerned, will be on air for 45 to 60 minutes at 9 p.m. once a week. It’s main goal is to engender patriotism and love of country.
“The program will do this by initially concentrating on children in kindergarten and teach them to love their own country,” he said.
He said that it’s easy to teach children good values like patriotism because they are young and have perceptive minds.
He added that the program is expected to counter the strategy of terrorist groups like Daesh and Al-Qaeda who concentrate on recruiting young children to be their followers.
“These groups recruit innocent kids through the social media like Facebook and Twitter or through WhatsApp. Step by step, these children are being brainwashed and innocently absorb terrorist ideas,” he said.
He added that the program will eventually address students in high school, college and university.
Al-Hassan added that the program will be sponsored by various groups including businessmen, philanthropists, educators, among others.
“Many of them relish the idea because of its contemporary relevance. Terrorist groups strike fear and terror in society,” said Al-Hassan, also known as media consultant.
