JEDDAH: Marine patrols of the Border Guard in Tabuk area foiled an attempt to smuggle more than 1 million narcotic pills into Haqel city along the Red Sea coast.
Col. Saher Al-Harbi, Jazan Border Guard spokesman, said that the patrol had spotted a boat heading to Haqel port. When one of the units tried to inspect it, the ship turned off into another direction with those on board throwing bags off the vessel.
When officers retrieved the bags, they found more than 1 million amphetamine pills. “These pills were going to be distributed in Saudi society to destroy its young men,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Batha border custom’s department prevented an attempt to smuggle more than 20,000 bottles of alcohol into the country labeled as juice.
The entry point’s General Manager Abdulrahman Al-Mahna said that these bottles were found hidden among other juice bottles, in an attempt to conceal it from customs officers.
He said the customs department has the ability to tackle all types of smuggling, with officers trained to deal with the most sophisticated attempts to hide contraband at the country’s land and sea borders.
