Sibi George, deputy chief of the mission at Indian Embassy, called on the students to emulate the patriotism, learning spirit and creativity of the great Indian leaders, who contributed in making India an elite and modern nation.
George was speaking at a honors ceremony organized by the Riyadh-based International Indian Public School (IIPS) recently.
George, by giving examples of the noble laureates and great men of letters like William Shakespeare, Abraham Lincoln and M. K. Gandhi, exhorted the students and teachers to take steps to elevate their academic prowess in different disciplines.
The event was attended by students, teachers, parents and guests besides George, who was the chief guest on the occasion.
The grand felicitation ceremony was attended by IIPS Managing Committee Chairman Imtiyaz Ahmed together with panel members like Salman Khalid, George Tharakan, Mohammed Anwar, Nowshad M Yousuf and Izhaar H. Ansari. IIPS Principal K. M. Abdul Azeez gave his welcome address, while Ligy Felix and Shabana Parveen anchored the event.
The ceremony was organized to acknowledge the outstanding achievers in academic and co-curricular activities for the academic year 2012. IIPS Chairman Imtiyaz Ahmed commended the efforts of the teachers and the achievements of the students. He encouraged them to exert more efforts and keep working hard to excel in different fields. Certificates and trophies were awarded to outstanding winners.
Principal Azeez said, “the globalization, socio-economic and political readjustment and incredible development in science and technology have changed the world scenario and so has our education system. Our children are continuously putting up their best performance to keep abreast with today’s challenges.”
Under Grade XII achiever was Ali Hasan Adnan, school topper, who scored 94.8 percent marks and was also granted scholarship for higher education by CBSE.
Harini Murali with 90.6 percent and Bilal Abid Khan with 90.4 percent were second and third toppers respectively. Adnan, Nashid Ahmed and Rakesh Ravishankar were awarded for securing ‘centum’ in Mathematics.
Under Grade X results, 18 students scored A1. A total of 10 students achieved distinction in NSTCE with Afreen S. Abdullah securing the first rank in the Kingdom. In the category of sports, Friedrich Samuel of Grade XII was felicitated. Yousuf Khan, Nihala Naushad, Roshini Nair, Najla Ajman, John Jojy, Syeda Fatima Termizi, Shiyas Abdul Wahab, Zainab Mustafa, Iman Shakeel, Azra, Heba Shakeel and Tarana Ahmed were also felicitated.
The day at IIPS was also marked with the launch of the first edition of “VISIONS”— the IIPS teachers’ chronicle, a newsletter.
The event began with the recitation of the verses from the Holy ‘Quran’ by the school students Shezan and Aaqr. The event concluded with vote of thanks delivered by M. Khalid.
